EMSMedFile

Preventing Medical Mistakes

The EMSMedFile provides seniors with a way to facilitate care when they experience a medical emergency in their place of residence.

The EMSMedFile device is a magnetized vinyl envelope that seniors place on their refrigerator. The envelope holds a current medical history, including a list of prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines and advance directive information, such as a living will.

When EMS personnel arrive at a home, they will find the file on the patient's refrigerator and take it with them to the hospital. This gives paramedics and emergency room staff immediate access to the patient's medical history.

Immediate access to patients' medical histories and medications not only improves the care patients receive, but could mean the difference between life and death, especially if allergic or adverse drug reactions are avoided.

Stress and confusion usually prevail in an emergency situation. Patients and family members are often unable to provide the medical information that is vital to ensuring informed treatment. The EMSMedFile solves this problem, saving time and preventing possible mistakes.
